IN MEMORIAM – Keith L Moore

As the Head of Anatomy), hewas offered the Chair of Anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This chair  was previously  occupied for 26 years by Professor J. C. Boileau Grant, a world-renowned anatomist. Keith L Moore published sixty scientif papers and authored  fourteen textbooks in gross anatomy, embryology, cytology and neuroanatomy. His book- The Developing Human, Clinically Oriented Embryology, was  translated into 14 other languages. The other renowned books authored by him  are Before We Are Born, Essentials of Embryology and Birth Defects, Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Essential Clinical Anatomy and Color Atlas of Clinical Embryology .

Dr Keith Moore was the fourth amongst five brothers.His father wanted him to be a minister while his mother wanted him to be what he liked.She however insisted that he should study in the university.His wife for 57 years,Marion earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1977. She did most of the typing of my publications and books.She even did the proofreading.He would often retort “I am not perfect” when she pointed out some inadequecacies.She would then say “Don’t keep proving it”.Dr Keith fathered five children with Marion.

After retirement in 1991 he maintained his busy schedule and was nominated for the Henry Gray/Elsevier Distinguished Educator Award, the AAA’s highest award for human anatomy education. He died in 2019 at the age of 94.
